Ride-along at Ranheim Ambulance Station

We gained unique insight into the daily life of ambulance workers by joining real call-outs at Ranheim Ambulance Station.

Ride-along with Ranheim Ambulance Station

It’s one thing to talk with ambulance workers about their challenges. It’s something else entirely to join the call-outs and experience reality from the back seat of an ambulance.

From theory to reality

Through our hospitation at Ranheim Ambulance Station, we followed ambulance staff on real missions. We witnessed the fast pace, the quick decisions, and — not least — how heavy the documentation burden really is when it has to be handled in between acute situations.

What struck us most was how much mental load is placed on personnel, not only during patient treatment itself, but in all the transitions: from alert to treatment, from treatment to transport, and from transport to the comprehensive record-keeping that must be done afterwards.

Insights shaping our product

Being present in real situations gave us valuable insight that no presentation or survey could provide. We saw how communication flows between team members, which details are critical to capture, and when there is actually time to document.

This experience directly influences how we develop Echomedic:

  • We understand the context better — when and how documentation can actually happen in a busy workday
  • We see the value of continuity — how important information can be lost in transitions between the different phases of a mission
  • We feel the time pressure — how critical it is that documentation tools don’t add extra work, but actually reduce the burden

Thank you to Ranheim Ambulance Station

A big thank-you to the team at Ranheim Ambulance Station for taking us along. Their openness and insight are invaluable for the development of Echomedic.

We take these experiences with us into product development, with an even clearer picture of how Echomedic can become a tool that truly works in the real world — not just in theory.
